Nil

Flipping through a newspaper  is like a world
in a still shot of words. A night sky of falling stars
against the backdrop of inkblots and faded graphite.
Filling out the whiteness of pages parched with yesterday
scenes captured and distilled in silence.  Here, where
its blackness became a cure to this ennui.  A distraction.
A flotsam of unhappy events, of somebody’s [...]

You lied to me about baptism. The intoxication
and its sinful concoction sweating from some bottles
whose name sounds like a saint I worshipped
night after night.

I gulped down gallons like the torrential rains outside.
Submerged in the bubble of nameless strangers
in the watering hole. Kindred souls searching
for some kind of salvation.

The cloud of smoke, its humid and hazy [...]

Orion’s Belt

He is a hunter
who journeyed to cross,
armed with a sword
this celestial ocean of love.
In an odyssey orbiting space
spanning lightyears
deep into the galaxy.
He navigates
on the clear night sky
pulsating with hope.

A voyage only to find
his happiness. A tryst
with the meteor showers
and constellations.
One sad winter solstice,
as he tried opening
the heaven’s gates.
He eclipsed by the moon.

Tonight, this autumn
in its [...]

Sundown Over Umm Ghuwailina

Half of the world rising up
on the east welcoming sun,
watching the day unfolds.
Hoping for grace, a fresh start.

While, there is a nacreous pearl,
a shell of the western sky peering.
Through the ridges and ridges
of sand-covered castles in the city.

Orange gloom in the showers
of the sandstorm. Like an hourglass,
little diamonds in the seave.
Time slips down in a [...]

Vignette On Yesterday

There was a time when I thought happiness
was infinite and the night full of stars.
And I have my way of keeping track
each day written on a page. There was a time,
when the breeze came to my sails
as it float away myriad of dreams-
like kites braving the sky.
And the harvest is here,
filled my basket overflowing
of summer [...]

Bedspace

To this semi-privacy. An epitaph reads,
“in this sanctum, a restless, herein lies,
its opaque remembrance failing to breath
devoid of oxygen, rousing to the grind
like  a zombie of the worst kind”.
Against the ancient cracked walls, my fingers
will then, smear red letter stains of anguish.

The light bulb is my flickering moon
cocooned in cobwebs, I dread.
It went dead as [...]

Embers

I am smoldering in the night.
But you’ll see no passion, only sober
semblance to a gargoyle, seating.
And towering over the city lights.

Ah, the fahrenheit must have drop
below sub-zero. My steely psyche
a block of ice emitting smoke,
numb in whiteness. I froze.

Ignite me a matchstick. Tell me
what you see when melancholy
lurks slowly in my bones. Splintered
cinders, then into ebony [...]

Aurora Borealis

There is dancing.
A night in an icy land.
They are spirits-
ancestors of high realms-
gathering, around
ceremonial sun flares.

Green luminous rings
of star trails,
forming foxfire
and fire dragons, whisking
into atmosphere
their celestial tails.

Shimmering filament-
in the vast firmament.
Iridescent signs.
Streaks of neon,
a surreal reflection
into the strange horizon.

I danced phenomena-
To the mystery
of the northern lights.
Warping time
Of years beyond
your polar shadow.

The Wake-up Call

I skipped my regular routine attending church services in the morning that Friday.  A week ago, I have already informed our pastor that I plan to attend the Industrial Area church service instead in the evening.  I also missed out our church choir practice that night, which I am so sad about.
We braved the dusty road [...]
