Stamps And Postmarks

Beyond the years and graying hairs
I am keeping in a book of dreams.

Like dried leaves and dried petals
flooding my way  to the mailbox,
togetherness is just one simple note
of words handwritten in a page.

And in my dreams I am trading places
of happy photographs and postcards.
Those promises that fill my head
I am dreaming still. Wondering

what’s like to [...]

Rhapsody In Blue

No string quartet.
No conductor to signal the baton.
No orchestra to anticipate my usual swoon
of randomly plucked staccato
alternating octaves
like a mad man in Vienna.

Alone in the stage,
I would linger
unvigorous in vibrato,
punctuating this sadness
in glissando. A solo part- how I wish
to serenade the muse. Longing
to tell her story in music-
under the sweet  delicate pitch
sorrow of Cremona.

The episodes, I have written on
mellow [...]

Alphabet

I hug my bag closer,
seeking comfort of a mother
wondering why,
in the midst of strangers,
seated in a row,
seeing life as hard
as the wooden table.

I dread writing,
clutching each force,
engraving the words
to a fragile memory wall
of that tiny classroom,
I cannot understand.

I wish I could go home
content, isolated from distraction.
And wait for a mother
to teach me the alphabet
unhurriedly without
pressure.

Even [...]

Monochrome

Be still. Please focus. Would you wait
until my iris capture you of snapshots? I am here.
Don’t notice. Your portrait on my mind, I dodged
and burned. Don’t worry. I won’t
over-expose the sequences of the memory
fleshed out from my canister, the last strip of film.

On my negative- your wavelength of light escapes
through my lenses, I would carefully [...]

Tickets

Today, he waits
at the station, searching through
the window panes. And soon
he’ll run along, chasing
shadows to his past.

The train became a home
to a lover. A wanderer of days-
exiled to traveling distances.
An evacuee amidst
the maze of constant strangers.

A thought, he is keeping-
of a woman he lost.
That last glimpse returning,
as she boarded a train-
happily blew him a kiss.

But [...]

I Left The World As It Is

I left the world as it is
Not a tear has been shed,
Only the mist forming
faint breath of dying-
wisps of memory
of the world when
I first found it.
The womb of the earth
gave birth, a wound won’t heal.
A fading montage
I watched. I witnessed.
A cycle of suffering.
A continuous decay.
People lying lifeless
of hunger, alienation,
war and hate.
Dog eats dog, surviving
like savages
inflicting pain.  [...]

Memories Are Cheap

Fish crackers, salted
peanuts, chicharon
and Coke in can.
Five peso and fifty cent
fare to a jeepney ride.
I  inhale the pungent
breeze of the balmy bay.
As I watch the murky water
when the sun walks away,
its face hiding down.

The lamp post aglow
to your face, a pale moonlight.
Do you remember-
when I cuddle you
on this lonely bench? Together,
neophytes to tender love
leaning into each [...]

Visions of Arabia

Traffic. The car stops. This one will be longer, I guess. So I just fielded my gaze travelling into the vastness of the Arabian soil.  My mind just wander. And wander still. Back. Five years ago.
It’s early morning, I am walking along the streets of Mabini glossing over overseas employment prospects in the Middle East.  I can’t [...]

Drafter’s Board

Room gravitates with clacking sounds from T-square and triangles repelling each other at drafter’s boards. Blood races with time. Sweat drips left watermarks on vellum as inkblots nervously travels the maze of light pencil strokes. There were smudges of graphite dusting above the immaculateness of the paper that the fruity-smelled eraser had not breezed through. Then, forms of squares and [...]

Love Letters in the Sand

Love
before sunrise…
I saw you there among the horizon, peering through the breaking of the first light. That gentleness like the morning star had me longing for more.  More of you from the previous night. Let me embrace you like the feathery clouds in their afterglow. How serene am I in your bosom. Not a care in [...]
