Ghost Whisperer

Let the slant of light
create the faded shadows
on a misty afternoon
such as this. The cold air
encroaching by my bed,
please sit beside me.

Your embrace I dream
feeling your warmth.
See, I am not crying.
I am not afraid anymore
of the dark sky. For I see,
shining in the distance,
a bridge spanning a chasm
between us. Wait no longer.

Will you hold my [...]

Alphabet

I hug my bag closer,
seeking comfort of a mother
wondering why,
in the midst of strangers,
seated in a row,
seeing life as hard
as the wooden table.

I dread writing,
clutching each force,
engraving the words
to a fragile memory wall
of that tiny classroom,
I cannot understand.

I wish I could go home
content, isolated from distraction.
And wait for a mother
to teach me the alphabet
unhurriedly without
pressure.

Even [...]

Your face tells much
and the crooked lines circling
your eyes, expressionless
but I have found a meaning.

You began to speak
but I can’t hear until
that voice, suddenly, came
from nowhere.  Sshhh. Quiet.

Keep calm. You wait-
for the one who sings the lullaby
to a child. Yes, you are a child
whose life will begin at forty.

And sleep will once again visit
to take [...]

Pasig River And The Warrior Child

I once had the chance to swim the Pasig River when I was just about five or six, I guess.  An uncle, who was a robust teenager that time, invited by his friends, tagged me along with him one afternoon.  We walked across J.P Rizal street and descended some flight of steps going to the [...]

Musically Challenged

I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano.  It is one of the things in my bucket list that I am compelled to do, fulfilling the goals I have set several years ago, but so elusive that I never found the proper time and place to learn it.  Even if I tried [...]

Death Of A Little Bird

I was on my way to a restaurant that late afternoon to meet a friend, hurrying and my mind was filled with gloomy thoughts. My mind just wandered aimlessly, battling inner fears.
Rebel as I was, it seems that I am all wearied and fighting against the world, crushed in the agony of my self-defeat- I [...]

Haiku To A Hideaway

Let me beach to your powdery sand,
a beachcomber with seashells on his hand
delightful picking colored stones ashore.

On your rugged cliffs I climb and went,
lingering to witness your misty sunset
touched by the wind of this summer’s kiss.

The leaning tree, a coconut, subdued me,
as it veils its shadowy palms over me-
dancing divine light, streaming reverie.

Seawaves sailed glinting [...]

Like A Desert Meets The Rain

Outstretched are
green mighty arms
of thorny crowns
prickly under the sun.

Lowly shrubs
worshipping the sand
winding tapestries
of the golden strands

It swirls. It whirls.
The desert breath
summoning the clouds
to quench its thirst.

Its parched hand.
Its speckled face,
lips of heaven planted
its misty kisses.

When the sun wearied,
will the cold rain
Preciously sparkles jewels
such in the night time.

Of  the dewdrops
cusped into little ponds,
clustering brown cakes-
the food [...]

Elegy to the Departed

Perhaps, Teofi
the promises of your future withers too soon
like the leaf falling early in the summer
where we frolicked in the fountain of our energies;
and bask in the heat of our freedom;
and in the nest of fermenting dreams with another human.
I can tell Teofi, how sad is the early goodbye
where you breathed your last and [...]
