Second Thought

Either way, we will neglect
this guesswork.
Swimming in the stream
of people encapsulated
in their self-made walls.
Jammed in traffic
of clues and hints,
lip synching the same
old line of self-defense.
A justification
followed by explanations.
Why do we choose to stay
the same?
For you, love is
a crossword puzzle
deciphering codes
stitching words.
If words would say rightly
the true meaning from the heart.
Then, we don’t need
a second chance
to feel as if the world around us
stood still. It will only leave
a language that we
both understood eversince,
that day we met
for the first time.
Like poetry, what makes a person exciting or interesting is the mystery that underlies the vail of the obvious. We always need to let that vail hanging loose like drapes to keep our readers guessing what’s beneath, because that defines poetry from plain writing. It’s like that distinct spark you see in a person that defines that person from all the rest you’ve seen and met.
I remember one part in the book “the little prince” about the rose he thought very special, and thus he treated as such being the only flower in his planet. But then when he came down to earth, he discovered that there are bunch of the same flowers like the one he thought was unique. But in spite of the discovery, he still thought of the rose special because as what the fox told him, only the heart can see correctly.
I think of the same thing when reading poetry, we could be presented one thing in a poem that could misslead us to see many different things but still, it’s the heart that should decide what the poem should mean to every person, to see that one special rose from all the many different meanings.
Poetry, when sincerely done, is written words and is the pronouncement of the heart. For me, there’s no other way to read a poem but with the heart because it is where it speaks.
This poem you’ve written is trying too hard to decipher something so simple because it uses the mind to understand - it’s very analytical on something that’s very obvious from the start. You see your rose from the bunch of flowers yet you’re trying too hard analyzing each of its petals that’s taking you so much time to pick what your heart knows and wanted from the start when you first met.
Why don’t you let your mind rest and follow what your heart tells you - remember what the fox said?
Only the heart can see correctly.
I wish you well.

hi Marvin!
i read the poem twice, i think am gonna read it again before i continue..
am back-
…i read it over and over again because it so touches my soul that i am now here, right here, shedding a tear…for that so simple a word- “LOVE” - which in real life is so difficult to spell….that sometimes, people choose to just write it than live it….
