Orion’s Belt
September 11, 2009 by hames-1977
He is a hunter
who journeyed to cross,
armed with a sword
this celestial ocean of love.
In an odyssey orbiting space
spanning lightyears
deep into the galaxy.
He navigates
on the clear night sky
pulsating with hope.
A voyage only to find
his happiness. A tryst
with the meteor showers
and constellations.
One sad winter solstice,
as he tried opening
the heaven’s gates.
He eclipsed by the moon.
Tonight, this autumn
in its equinox. The same man
keeps appearing still
on many evenings. Charting
the clear night sky, chasing
his own destiny, forever
in the afterlife marching
the procession of stars.
The anthropomorphical touch you put in this poem is amazing. I see fusion of realistic human behavior and motivation in this poem with the celestial constellation creating such a very empathic character in a poem.
Well-felt emotion and imageries of such galactic proportion collides to a shower of stars to prove that the magic of poetry is everywhere: in small things and in the grandeur of the heavenly bodies over our heads awaiting to be translated to words as you did here.
I wish you well.

jeques,
this poem is a mythological story about Orion. i vaguely remember this story so many years ago, when i read it in one of the english textbooks in gradeschool. the story is poignant and briefly narrated why orion died and was drowned in the sea. so i spend most of my time at night in the open field to probe the stars.
this poem is very special to me, because it brings me the memories of my childhood and my inquisitive nature at such a young age, most especially in science and history. so i decided to relive the story of orion as i have understood it now as how it relates to me presently. i thank the writers of the early stories i have read before. because they prompt me to ask questions and search for answers, why things happen the way they have to be.
i agree, in the greatness and the smallness of things, poets should do well communicating and conveying the message. in that way, we never know how it influences another person to think and communicate back.
best of times,
